How to Stay Passionate About Your Career

0:12 What is passion?

The word "Purpose" is much stronger than "Passion." When you have a purpose, you feel it deep in your heart and soul. That purpose makes you feel energized, creative and makes you want to go out, and accomplish what you've set out to do. My purpose, too, is my career. With anything I do, I have to feel it in my heart.

0:43 How do you stay strong when it's hard to follow your purpose?

Look at the big picture and know that in order to get to the big picture, it's the smaller things you have to do first. Take a step back and remember where you were 10 years ago, 5 years, 2 years ago. Journaling is important so that you can look back and read about it.

I had a large period of struggle in my life. I went through a bad divorce. I had to find my purpose and reinvent myself during this time, because honestly, I didn't want to do Real Estate or anything having to do with my past life.

I learned so much from that. By looking at the mistakes I made and asking "what should I do? How can i reinvent myself, move forward, and figure out what the next phase in my life will be?"

And! Remember the WHY. That's so important when you are going through something hard. Why are you doing this and why is it so important to you? This will keep you going.

SO, at 30 years old, I went back to school and found a passion for television. I didn't care if I was behind the camera or infant of it. I just wanted to be involved in that creative field.

I ended up with an internship at NBC - I was 30 years old, and likely the oldest intern there. That was how I was able to find what I wanted to do, and a way to tie real estate, to TV and those to Women's Empowerment.

Keep your Vision, Purpose & Goals written down. That will help you to stay on track if the trail leads you another direction.

2:50 Your Support System Matters

My family, husbands and friend have helped me through so much. They are someone you can pick up the phone and tell you are having an issue, and ask them to help you find the light at the end of the tunnel. Just make sure that person has your best interest at heart. That's important.

3:12 How do you find a good mentor?

Having a mentor happens naturally. As we go through life, our mentors will likely change, as we change. In your 30s, you're trying to find yourself and your career. In your 40s, your on the up-and-up in your career and raising a family. Women are raising families later in life.

Find someone who has been on your similar situation, ask them to grab a coffee! Let them know how much your value their advice. More importantly, whatever is in your heart, feel it, own it and move forward with it!
