Sorry Not Sorry: How to Stop Apologizing for Your Success

with Terri Brax, Founder of WTF (Women Tech Founders)

There are just some things we shouldn’t do. Men shouldn’t lead companies focused on Tampons and women shouldn’t lead companies focused on Jockstraps.

What’s wild, is that up until recently, men were actually at the forefront of companies focused on producing and distributing tampons and maxi pads (I can assure thats shocking for men and women alike). And it’s not to say that the wonderful men of the world aren’t empathetic to our woes, but it would simply be impossible for the guys to understand what our bodies actually feel and behave like. Thankfully, now, it’s a majority women led industry. And for that, we have wonderful inventions like the FLEX Disc and Dot Cup.

What’s even more astounding is that In a nation, where over half of the population is women, only 9% of leadership roles in the tech industry are occupied by women. This is one of our nations top 5 industries, attributing to $1.8 billion in output, with tentacles in every other industry. As a woman, I am sure you can think of an endless number of products and technologies that we use in addition to men, or solely as women. Example: the seatbelt. And did you know that women are 47% more likely than men to sustain severe injury in an accident from the seatbelt?

To me, that signifies we need more women, and diversity, at the steering wheel. That is what, my wonderful guest, Terri Brax, founder of Women Tech Founders (WTF) looks to change.

In this episode of Smart is the New Sexy, Terri get’s exceptionally intimate with me, telling us about her earliest encounters with an unequal balance of power, the many WTF moments, and how it led her to where she is today. She discusses how severe the unequal balance of power can be to a person in growth but as well as the economy and that by changing it, and putting diversity in Tech, can pave the way to a safer, more empathetic, and successful economy.

I’m so grateful I had this opportunity to speak with her and I’m certain the interview will be worth your time! If you'd like to learn more about women tech founders, check them out here: https://womentechfounders.com
