Dropping the Veil on Infertility and In Vitro Fertilization with Dr. Roohi Jeelani, MD
Let's drop the veil and get a little vulnerable.
This week I'm joined by Dr. Roohi Jeelani, MD, Reproductive Endocrinologist & Infertility Specialist for a very important topic, one that hits very close to home. I'm hoping that by being vulnerable we can open the floor for a very meaningful conversation.
In hopes of starting a family with my husband, this summer has marked the conclusion of my 5th retrieval. This journey has been marked by numerous miscarriages and the weight and sadness that comes with it.
I know I'm not alone, because when I put my story in a room of women or on social media, many raise their hands having experienced similar situations. Yet - it's taboo and many don't talk about it unless probed. Is it possible that shame is what keeps us from talking about it?
Perhaps.
But we're hear to tell you in many cases, your body has made this decision for you, and shame is not yours to bare. Our bodies are all so different, and by staying quiet, what does that mean for the women who don't know where to begin or are just starting and don't have a support group? What does that mean for families and friends trying to navigate conversations with those close?
Personally, I think it's important we discuss infertility & the amazing reproductive science that is advancing daily. Dr. Roohi Jeelani, MD, shares my passion to crack open this topic and let it shine brightly in the world. It's more common than we realize, especially now with partners waiting longer than ever to have children. Whether it's women in the workforce, or partners not in a rush to move into the next chapter, it's undeniable having kids is important, but maybe a little later than before.
In this episode we discuss what IVF is, when to start looking into it, how to find a doctor, male and females roles in infertility, freezing eggs, the cost and if your insurance might actually assist in the expense as well as many other important aspects to IVF.
If you need someone to talk to or have more questions on the topic, please reach out. I'd be happy to talk.
If you know someone with an inspiring story that can motivate and help others grow, we'd love to hear from you! Please reach out here and tell us a little more about them or you!
